Zavattieri’s work emerges from social criticism against the massive and misleading use of imagery. Photographic images are intended as a duplicate of reality and thus lay between truth and fiction, between the perception of a given reality and of what passes for real. The modern myth of the flying objects in the sky links to this system: uncertain sightings made plausible through the use of amateur photography in the time of digital democratization, which increasingly allows everyone to be photographers, while still ignoring the fundamentals of the technique and craft of photography.
